For Packers fans, it’s always gameday.

In October, 2010, while watching a Packers game, I was inspired by the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign with some of the players wearing pink items. I was overdue for a mammogram, and seeing our players wearing pink reminded me to go see my doctor.

So a Monday after the game I went in and had it done. The radiologist saw something suspicious, and a biopsy was done. To make a long story short, I was lucky because they caught it early, though I eventually had to have both breasts removed. Who knows how long I would have gone before they found it and treated it and what the consequences would have been, but what a long, painful journey it has been.

The bright side is that I’m now considered cancer free. If it hadn’t been for the NFL and the Packer organization’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign I would have not made that appointment. I had no symptoms that would have led me to see my physician.

My deepest gratitude goes out to all of you involved in this effort.
