Ingredients
Cake:
- ½ cup Crisco
- 1½ cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 oz. green food coloring
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 2¼ cups cake flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 T. vinegar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- ½ tsp. salt
Frosting:
- 3 sticks butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 C. granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp. corn starch
- 1 C. milk
- Green food coloring
- Yellow food coloring
- Red food coloring
Preparation
Cake:
- Preheat oven to 300. Grease and flour football mold cake pan.
- Cream Crisco and sugar. Mix in eggs. In a separate bowl mix cocoa and green food coloring into a paste. Add this paste to the mixture. Add vanilla.
- In a separate bowl add baking soda and buttermilk.
- In another bowl sift the flour and salt together.
- Add flour and buttermilk mixture alternately. Beat well.
- Fold in vinegar.
- Bake at 300 for approximately 40-50 minutes depending on the size of your cake mold.
Frosting Preparation:
- Cream butter, vanilla and sugar with mixer.
- In a small saucepan cook corn starch and milk until thick. Allow to cool and add to mixture.
- Beat until the consistency of whipped cream.
- Divide frosting and add food coloring to make green and gold frosting.
Note: To make true Packer gold, you will need to add a small amount of red food coloring to the yellow. Add the red food coloring a few drops at a time until you get Packer gold.
Use frosting tips or spread frosting on cake after the cake has cooled.”
