Packers Birthday Cake with Frozen Tundra Frosting

Submitted by Babette in Ann Arbor Charter Township, MI

Ingredients

Cake:
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1.5 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2.5 cups flour
- 1 tsp soda
- 1 tsp vinegar
- 1/4 cup (2 oz.) green food color
- 2 tsp cocoa
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla

Frosting
- 3 TBSP flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup butter (note: margarine separates, don’t use)
- 1/4 cup (2 oz) yellow food coloring

Preparation

Cake:
- Cream shortening and sugar.
- Add cocoa and add to mixture.
- Add flour and sale alternatively with buttermilk. Add vanilla. Add soda and vinegar.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes in greased layer cake pans. Let the cake cool thoroughly before frosting.

Frosting:
- Cook flour and milk on medium high temperature until thick.
- Cool (about 45 minutes; stir during cooling so it doesn’t get lumpy).
- Cream butter-/sugar mixture until fluffy, and add vanilla and beat.
- Blend the cooled flour-milk mixture into it and mix well.
- Add the yellow food coloring and mix well (don’t freak out because it is red color when it comes out of the bottle!)
- Frost between and on top, or use other filling and frost top and sides. Enjoy!
